While dabbling with an idea of impregnating iconic Indian aesthetics into luxury lifestyle products for the Indian/Global market, we came across Kolam, as our inspiration. Kolam is an antient geometric artform practised by Indian women from time immemorial. The tradition of painting Kolam is believed to have originated about 5,000 years ago, during the pre-Aryan period. Me and Suhasini Paul (my wife and co-designer) started exploring the idea of using kolam inspired geometry to create different lifestyle products. We shorlisted an array of 14 objects, which we built in the next 28 days. The Kolam collection consists of products like Accent Table, Floor Lamp, Table lamp, Bed side lamp, mood lamp, tea-lights, terraniums, vases, food platters, serving tray, condiment server, coaster set, cake stand and wall plates. It is entirely handcrafted from Brass, Slate stone, Serpentine stone and Crystals.
